HARTPURY FC saw their FA Cup campaign brought to an end as two late goals earned Cirencester Town a 2-0 victory at the Talent Hire Stadium on Friday night.

The Acorns held their Hellenic League Premier Division opponents for much of the extra preliminary round tie and came close to breaking the deadlock themselves before the visitors struck twice in the closing stages.

Cirencester made the brighter start, forcing Hartpury goalkeeper Seth Locke into action after six minutes as he tipped an effort over the crossbar.

Hartpury grew into the contest and threatened around the half-hour mark, with Louis Manning’s dangerous corner turned behind before Cameron Walters saw a close-range attempt blocked.

Manning registered Hartpury’s first effort on target shortly before the break, although his low free-kick was comfortably gathered by Cirencester goalkeeper Connor Johns.

The Acorns enjoyed more possession after half-time and Nathan Jenkins went close with a volley before Manning had a long-range effort deflected behind.

Locke then produced an excellent low stop to deny Harlie Price at the other end, with Cirencester putting the rebound over.

Hartpury came agonisingly close to taking the lead after 64 minutes when Manning turned and volleyed against the post.

Jenkins later had an effort blocked from close range before Rory Preston sent a volley narrowly wide as the hosts continued searching for the opener.

However, Cirencester broke the deadlock from the penalty spot after 77 minutes, with Price converting after the referee changed his original decision following consultation with his assistant.

The visitors made sure of their place in the next round ten minutes later when Sol Pryce drove forward and fired into the roof of the net.

Hartpury pushed forward during the closing stages but could not find a response, leaving the Acorns to reflect on missed opportunities as their FA Cup journey ended at the first hurdle.
