AFTER a winning start to the new Hellenic League Division One campaign on Saturday, August 1, Lydney Town made it two wins from two with another three points at Sansom Park as they continue their bid to bounce straight back to the Hellenic Premier Division this season.

Having edged out Bewdley Town 1-0 in their opener thanks to Arthur Nkrumah's debut winner, the striker was again the hero on Tuesday night, scoring twice as Town claimed a convincing 3-0 victory over Bromyard Town.

Manager Wayne Jones made just one change to the side that opened the campaign with victory, with Rich Thomas replacing Tom Pass in goal.

Lydney began brightly, but Bromyard quickly settled into the contest and enjoyed long spells of possession, forcing the hosts onto the back foot. The visitors looked threatening from set-pieces and nearly took the lead when Danny Barnes fired narrowly wide of the far post after Town were caught giving the ball away.

Bromyard continued to pile on the pressure with a succession of corners, but Thomas and his defence stood firm to keep the scores level.

While the visitors enjoyed possession, Lydney always looked dangerous on the counter attack and eventually made the breakthrough through one of those quick transitions.

Frankie Johnson threaded an excellent pass into the path of Nkrumah, who raced through before drilling a powerful finish beyond Ryan Williams to put the hosts ahead.

Bromyard continued to threaten before the break. Declan Bibb saw an effort deflected behind for a corner, while Matt Patrick fired wide as Lydney reached half-time holding a slender advantage.

Town looked more composed after the restart and nearly doubled their lead from a free-kick. Jordi Sheen delivered a deep ball into the area, but defender Tom Baldwin headed just wide.

Substitute Joe Blount made an immediate impact after replacing Arron Jenkins, supplying a cross that Nkrumah headed off target before seeing a curling effort flash just wide himself.

Debutant Josh Bolton was then introduced, while Aston Jeffs and Jakson Phillip-Thomas also entered the action as Jones refreshed his side.

The decisive second goal arrived after 70 minutes when Nkrumah reacted quickest to a loose ball inside the penalty area, smashing his effort in off the post to continue his superb start to life at Sansom Park.

Lydney sealed the points 10 minutes later. A deep cross to the far post found Jeffs, who arrived unmarked to guide home from a tight angle and put the result beyond doubt.

Bromyard refused to give in and forced Thomas into two smart late saves as they searched for a consolation, but the goalkeeper ensured Town recorded a second successive clean sheet.

With six points, six goals scored and none conceded from their opening two league matches, Lydney sit alongside Alcester Town and Ludlow Town at the top end of the early Division One table, with promotion back to the Premier Division firmly in their sights.
