HARTPURY University welcomed riders from diverse backgrounds for a special training day aimed at making dressage more accessible and inclusive.

The event, organised through a partnership between British Dressage, Cool Ridings Equestrian and British Equestrian, gave participants the opportunity to develop their skills with expert coaching while building confidence in a supportive environment.

Throughout the day, riders worked with British Dressage List 1 judge Jane Critchley and youth championship medallist India Durman Mills. Coaches spent time understanding each rider and horse before offering tailored guidance, with participants putting their learning into practice through dressage tests followed by personalised feedback and exercises to continue at home.

Alongside the ridden sessions, riders also took part in an IFA FIT pop-up fitness workshop, highlighting the importance of physical fitness and providing practical exercises to improve performance in the saddle.

Rebecca Gibson, Head of Development and Inclusion at British Equestrian, said: "We're delighted to support the partnership between British Dressage and Cool Ridings. It demonstrates what can be achieved by working together and considering the needs of communities who might need a little more support, encouragement or barriers breaking down."

Participant feedback praised both the coaching and welcoming atmosphere. One rider said they had received "brilliant constructive feedback" to help continue training with a young horse, adding the day had given them "a newfound confidence" in their own abilities.

Charlotte Osborne, Head of Development at British Dressage, said: "At the heart of our sport is the belief that equestrianism should be accessible to everyone. We're proud to have partnered with Cool Ridings and Hartpury to deliver a day focused on breaking down barriers to participation."

Organisers said the event demonstrated how collaboration between national governing bodies and Hartpury University can help create more inclusive opportunities in equestrian sport while giving riders the confidence, skills and support to continue their development.
