LYDNEY captain Ed Jones declared himself delighted with an excellent all-round performance to fire his side into further contention for glory.

The Severnside club defeated West of England League Gloucestershire Division leaders Dumbleton in a resounding win to climb within four points of the Costwold club.

“We played really well to beat the team top of the league,” Jones said.

“We’ve really hit form at the right time - we’re at the top of our game at the moment.

“We’ve got five games to go and we’re only a few points behind Dumbleton so I think the results could give us the confidence to go on and win the league.

“Out of our five games, three of them are away and it’s obviously always a lot harder to go to a pitch you don’t know.

“But we fancy our chances and if we play to our ability then we’ll have done all we can."
