LYDNEY Cricket Club secretary Andrew Davis is looking forward to the unknown next season after the club’s second XI gained promotion.

The team dominated the Gloucestershire Second XI Division of the West of England League, remaining atop the table for much of the 2015 season.

And on Saturday their fate in next year’s re-organised cricket structure was confirmed as they finally secured the championship.

“It’s a great achievement for the club,” he said.

“We set out to win it at the start of the season because of the re-organisation for 2016.

“We said that our seconds were ready to step up a level and they’ve gone out and got the job done.

“All of the club’s members are very pleased with them. It’s great to win it with a week to spare.

“There were a couple times we made it hard on ourselves - we lost to Stapleton both home and away when they were at the bottom reaches of the table and that gave Stroud a chance to gain ground.
