LYDNEY captain Ed Jones says his young side are itching to make amends for missing out on the West of England League Gloucestershire Division last season.
Jones’ men finished runners-up in the league behind champions Dumbleton in 2015, but he hopes to be able to go one further this summer.
They kicked off their season with a two-wicket win over Cheltenham Civil Service on Saturday at home.
“We want pretty much more of the same,” he said.
“We finished runners-up last year and we are hoping to be somewhere near the top again this year.
“We got off to a good start on Saturday, although it wasn’t the best performance. We got the result which is the key thing.
“We bowled well but the batting, after coming off a two-hour rain break, took a dip. Civil Service also bowled well.
“It was going well until the break. We bowled well and fielded well but we lost our rhythm after the rain.
“The bowlers were in good form which is pleasing and Jake Bonser’s 34 won us the game really.
“We go to Bourton this weekend and they’re always tricky; they’ve been a bit of a bogey team for us.
“We have a young team and it can be hard for them – cricket’s a hard game anyway. But we need to be more consistent to win the league. That’s the only thing that’s been missing.”
