CINDERFORD St John and Ross-on-Wye claimed victories in Wednesday night’s Forest of Dean Hundred League fixtures, with both sides seeing off spirited opposition in contrasting fashion.

Cinderford St John posted a dominant 192 for 4 to set up a 58-run win over Lydney Midweek XI after being put in to bat.

Opener Daniel Kibble led the way with a commanding 82, while Josh Edwards contributed an unbeaten 48. Lydney’s bowlers struggled to contain the run rate and were hampered by 38 extras, including 32 wides.

Callum Miller was the most effective bowler for Lydney, picking up 2 for 17 from his 15 balls, with Dan Thomas claiming 1 for 23 and a run out accounting for the fourth wicket.

In reply, Lydney made a steady start through Alex Nelmes, who top scored with 47, but the required rate continued to climb. Edwards starred with the ball as well, conceding just 7 runs and taking a wicket in his spell, while Chris Roberts took 2 for 20.

Liam Cottrell chipped in with a wicket, and despite 44 extras, the visitors could only reach 134 for 4, handing Cinderford a comfortable win.

Elsewhere, Ross-on-Wye held off a determined Parkend chase to record an 11-run win in a match that saw 91 extras across both innings.

Good win for Ross against Parkend

Having been asked to bat first, Ross posted 166 for 5. Lewis Mallon anchored the innings with an unbeaten 78, supported by 24 from Muhammed Noufal Fazaludeen and 20 from Will Brookes.

Parkend’s attack shared the wickets around, with Charlie Scharneck, Ryan Mann, Seth Barrow and Joseph Aldridge each striking once. However, 17 extras, including 8 wides and 4 no balls, added to their burden.

Parkend’s reply was built around Daniel Brain’s 41 and Ryan Mann’s 26, but they struggled to find momentum against a varied Ross bowling attack. Sachin Anil was the pick, taking 2 for 21, while Josh Element and David Newton took a wicket apiece.

Despite 47 extras keeping Parkend in contention, Ross maintained their discipline in the field as Parkend finished on 155 for 5.

Ross took the full two points from the contest, while Parkend were left to reflect on a missed opportunity in a match ultimately decided by discipline with the ball.

In Thursday’s match, Tintern won the toss and chose to bowl but were immediately put under pressure by a dominant Monmouth batting display.

Jones anchored the innings with a composed 66 not out from 40 balls, finding the boundary nine times and clearing it twice. Pilot was the standout aggressor, smashing 65 off just 25 balls with eight sixes in a destructive middle order cameo. Dobbie also chipped in with 34 from 24 deliveries, helping Monmouth reach an imposing 189 for 4 from their 100 balls.

Tintern’s bowling attack struggled to contain the onslaught, with Ridley emerging as the pick of the bowlers, taking 2 for 24 from his four overs. Williams also bowled tightly, claiming 1 for 24 and registering the only maiden of the innings.

In response, Tintern were almost entirely carried by a phenomenal knock from Williams. The opener struck 114 from 74 balls, hammering 12 fours and 10 sixes in a dazzling solo effort. But with little support at the other end, Tintern’s chase faltered.

Despite Williams' heroics, Tintern fell short on 163 for 5, 26 runs adrift of the target.
