CORSE & Staunton captain Tim Dannatt is hoping to make his side’s second stint in the West of England League a more permanent one after gaining promotion last year.

Dannatt’s men finished third in Division One of the County League in 2016, which proved to be enough to put them up.

“We’re definitely looking forward to the challenge,” he said.

“We’ve got a young and ambitious squad and the target is to stay in the league we’ve just been promoted to.

“It’s the second time in this division; we were in the league a few years ago for a while so it’s good to return.

“But hopefully this time we can stay in this league and continue to compete.

“We finished third in the league last year but due to the teams above us and relegation three teams went up.

“We had a good year; the season didn’t start particularly well but we turned it around and had a really strong second half to the season.”

Corse skipper Dannatt is hoping his team’s dangerous bowling prowess will help them compete at the higher level, having brought in a young prospect from Australia to help their cause.

“Our strength is definitely our bowling; we’ve got a lot of options and we’ve just brought in an overseas player which is exciting for the club.

“Gabriel Venica-Singh is 18 years old and from Sydney and he came over a few weeks ago.

“He’s a strong opening bowler and a relatively quick one.

“It’s the first time we’ve tried to bring in an overseas player so it brings something different for us.”
