CINDERFORD St John retained the Verderers Cup after a 12-run win over previously unbeaten Parkend in the final.

St John won the trophy on home turf last Tuesday, 24 hours after defeating Ruardean Hill in the semi-final.

Opener Rich Goldring led St John to victory as he scored 52 runs en route to the win.

He was eventually caught by Lee Ayres off Anthony Ball (1-31) but his opening partner Ed Ruck scored 48 not out.

Ayres (1-31) set up Tom Martin to catch Danny Field for 44 and St John finished on 156-2 after 20 overs.

James Bovill’s unbeaten 61 came too late for Parkend, as their opening batsmen were out for 10 runs between them, bowled by Matt Jackson (1-17) and Jordan Warren (1-22).

Luke Aldridge and Fran Gabaldoni were both run out after scoring 8 and 9 runs respectively, while Scott Ayres was caught for a duck off Matt King (1-35).

Ball was dismissed for 10, bowled by Will Camp (1-15) while skipper Lee Ayres had 35 not out.

It wasn’t enough for Parkend, who could only make 144-6.

• CINDERFORD reached the final after a four-wicket win at Ruardean Hill.

Hill’s Robbie Moore scored 52 but King (2-20) helped St John restrict the hosts to 129-6.

Ruck’s 59 not out proved a big factor for St John as they had 130-6 in 19.4 overs.
