National League One
Macclesfield 35
Cinderford 24
SECOND-ROW Ben West said he was not looking forward to watching the DVD of this game at training.
Speaking on Monday, having had time to reflect on the shock loss, the talented lock said: "It was very disappointing.
"We made a lot of first and second phase mistakes, we dropped ball and gave them a lot of ball to play with. They capitalised.
"They have a lot of direct runners, big ball carriers, and they made ground every time they got the ball.
"From our point of view it's hard to put a finger on why we were so flat. We just weren't the same team as last week.
"Macclesfield are fighting for their lives and they definitely wanted it more than us. Watching the DVD of the game will not be comfortable viewing."
Cinderford hopes were certainly high following last week's victory over Rosslyn Park.
However, Macclesfield opened the scoring when Dave Marwick burst through to score a try which Tom Eaton converted.
Mark Davies and Eaton exchanged penalties before Cinderford were awarded a penalty-try when home winger Jack Moorhouse deliberately stopped a scoring opportunity by flapping the ball into touch. He was also yellow carded. Davies's conversion levelled the scores.
Cinderford created several more scoring chances during the remainder of the first half but failed to take advantage of them. Eaton slotted a second penalty to give his side a slender advantage at the interval.
Another penalty from Eaton early in the second half was followed by a yellow card for Mark Davies as Macclesfield seized control of the match. They ran in tries through Tom Martell, a second from Marwick and Matt Rhodes, with Eaton converting twice.
A late Cinderford rally saw Mike Wilcox and Nick Selway go over for tries, both of which were converted by Davies, but again it was too little too late from the inconsistent Foresters.
Cinderford: Mike Wilcox, Nev Codlin (Ben Sparks 53), Jack Adams, Kai Done (Stefan Hawley 42), Lloyd Stapleton, Mark Davies, Danny Pointon, James Brooks (Joe Smart 59), Tom Bozzard (Chris Bundy 59), Nick Selway, Ben West, Ed King, Joe Garner (Rob Langley 47), Will Foden (capt), George Evans.
