National League One
Cinderford 39
Barking 18
CINDERFORD played some sunshine rugby to earn this bonus point victory, which guarantees their place in National One for next season.
Chris Ashwin kicked an early penalty for Barking, but this was soon cancelled out by a penalty from Rory Teague.
A strong run from winger Kai Done set up a good attacking position for the hosts and centre Simeon James went over for a try, which Teague converted.
Ashwin kicked his second penalty soon afterwards to make it 10-6, but Cinderford finished the first half strongly and flanker Will Foden was driven over for a try from a 5m line-out catch-and-drive. Teague's conversion made it 17-6 at the interval.
Cinderford continued to put their opponents under pressure in the second period and Teague's second penalty was followed by a try from Rob Winchle, who showed good strength to get to the line. Teague converted.
The bonus point try came from a well executed team move. Winger Nevaro Codlin split the Barking defence wide open to touch down under the posts, leaving Teague with a simple conversion.
To their credit, Barking never gave up and they were rewarded for their efforts with an unconverted try from scrum-half Tom Parker.
Cinderford's replacement scrum-half Luke Carter stole down the blindside to score from a 5m scrum, but Barking had the last laugh when Jack Gash went over for a consolation score.
The game lost its momentum when uncontested scrums were called for in the final 10 minutes, but Cinderford coasted home comfortable winners.
