Bridgend 24

CINDERFORD suffered a second defeat to Welsh Premiership opposition in as many weeks as Bridgend came out on top in this pre-season encounter, despite losing two of the three sessions.

It was the home side who dominated the opening 30 minutes, but they were unable breach a solid defence and turn their possession into points. A solitary penalty from Danny Trigg gave Cinderford their only points.

In the second session Cinderford were given a lesson in how to create and take scoring opportunities. Bridgend scored four well-taken tries through Glen Lewis, Rhys Jones, Lloyd Evans and Ben Thomas, who also landed two conversions.

Cinderford scored just before the end of this session when centre Jack Adams went over for a try which Mike Wilcox converted.

The final period was much more even and the home side crossed for the only score. Second-row Ben West made good ground, then the ball was taken on by Stefan Hawley, who beat two defenders to get to the line.

Pre-season draws to a close this Bank Holiday weekend with a double header at Dockham Road on Saturday.

Matches will be played against both Old Patesians (1pm) and Hartpury (3pm). Admission for both games is just £5. Cinderford already have a number of injury concerns, including Stuart Bailey and Luke Allen, Dewi Scourfield and George Evans.
