Avon 29
Berry Hill 16
JEKYLL and Hyde Berry Hill have been struggling for consistency all season long.
Team manager Jamie Elsmore hopes the good Berry Hill turn up for this Saturday's regional Intermediate Cup final at Lakers Road against Weston Hornets (2.30pm).
"It's a bit frustrating because we don't know which team is going to turn up on any given week," said Elsmore.
"The league is our priority but we hope to put in a performance this week. We've got the ability, we just need to string a few results together."
Away at Avon, Hill started poorly and gave themselves too much to do.
On a sticky pitch, there were too many careless passes and needless off-loads in the wrong areas of the field. It allowed Avon to take a stranglehold on the game and they forged ahead with two tries from Hill mistakes.
Hill did not come into the match until the latter minutes of the first half. Lee Hanson kicked two penalties as they trailed 17-6 at the break.
Hill improved significantly in the second half but found it hard to convert pressure into points. Aaron Ryder came off the bench to make a difference, controlling the back line effectively. Despite dominating possession, Hill were hit by two breakaway tries.
Kingsley Bower finally breached the Avon defence for a late try but it was merely a consolation.
