Letter to the Editor: While reading of the case of a local councillor being found not guilty of several counts of rape,  I find it unbelievable that the lady’s name can not be mentioned in the paper.

If this person was to have been found guilty it would have been only fair that the woman’s name not to have been mentioned, but it would seem that any woman could make these claims against any man if she if they felt that way inclined?

Editor’s note: The Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 1992 gives automatic anonymity to complainants in rape cases, whatever the outcome of the case.

Any newspaper or individual publishing details that could lead to the identification of the complainant would be guilty of a criminal offence.
