Donald Trump is a narcissistic moron. For the US military, he is an unpredictable irritant that they must manage. Iran is a big test for this relationship.

The USA wants to indirectly dominate the region to control who gets its oil – the energy life blood of the planet. It does this through Israel which wants to dominate its enemies and expand its borders to create a ‘Greater Israel’. Its expansionist behaviour has caused inevitable resistance for which it blames Iran.

Israel needs US muscle and the US needs Israel’s geography.

The justification that the war is all about stopping Iran developing a nuclear weapon exposes blatant hypocrisy. Israel has its own nuclear arsenal which it officially denies.

The propaganda that it is surrounded by murderous enemies that want to kill all Jews is also an exaggeration. The largest Jewish community outside of Israel in the Middle East is in Iran. They are religious Jews opposed to Israeli Zionism. As a punishment for what Israel sees as treachery by ‘self-hating’ Jews, it deliberately bombed and obliterated a Tehran synagogue on 7th April.

The pro-Israel lobby is the most powerful in the USA and backed Trump for President with the biggest single donation of $100million coming from a US/Israeli citizen, Miriam Adelson, the widow of a casino billionaire. It is now facing unprecedented criticism within the country from the very people who supported Trump for President. The pro-Israel lobby inevitably condemns this as ‘antisemitism’.

The war is very unpopular in the USA. Moreover, the country is running short of key munitions and missile interceptors and has had to resupply with weapons meant for any confrontation with China – which it sees as its ‘principal adversary’. It is also creating a shortage of weapons for the Ukraine conflict which European Governments believe should be a priority.

Iran has proved to be no easy pushover. It controls the flow of a significant proportion of the world’s oil. The illegal and unprovoked attacks and missile assassinations of politicians, military personnel and scientists and their families, threatens its very survival.

In retaliation it has attacked US military bases and blockaded oil supplies which will cause a global economic crisis unless there is a compromise.

The only way Iran can be defeated is by a nuclear attack or by armed invasion. The USA continues to move military assets to the region, but the one thing Trump and the Pentagon want to avoid is the inevitable casualties that will result from a military invasion. A direct attack on the Strait of Hormuz would be a high-risk move with casualties.

According to reports, Trump was so incoherent with rage at a recent ‘Situation room’ meeting because of the refusal of Iran to bow to US demands that he had to be escorted out and deprived of the nuclear codes by the military.

Trump is in the ‘escalation trap’. It is a noose around his neck.

Will he escalate or do the least damaging thing and find an excuse to retreat?
