YOUNG footballers from Blakeney were inspired to get a llife-saving defibrillator after seeing the distressing scenes when Danish star Christian Eriksen collapsed during a game.

The scene as players anxiously gathered around Eriksen during Euro 2020 in the summer was seen by Cayden Loew, who plays for Broadwell Under-12s.

Coach Martin Beard explained: "The tragic event of Christian Eriksen’s heart attack really affected one of my players, Cayden Loew.

"After watching the incident on TV, he asked his mum: "What would happen if that happened to me or anyone else at football?’

For an 11-year-old boy to be concerned in that matter, for me was great.

"His mum then contacted me to say he wanted to start fund-raising to purchase a defib for our age group and that he had some ideas for fund-raising.

"I put this out to all the parents on our Facebook page and they had the same feeling as me - except for one dad, who offered to pay for one outright for us as he, Wayne Adams, was a former footballer for Blakeney and agreed with Cayden’s kind thinking.

"Three weeks later I purchased a fully automatic defib."

The club, which is in its first competitive season in the Severn Valley Youth League, has also recently received new run-out jackets.

They have been sponsored by Clive Brisland who runs Brisland Meats at Eski-Market in Coalway.
