The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow tomorrow which could impact on waste collection services in the Forest of Dean and other parts of Gloucestershire.
It is expected that light snowfall will begin on Thursday night into Friday morning but the extent to which it will affect the Forest of Dean is unclear. Due to the showery situation any lying snow is not likely to be widespread but by Friday morning there could be around 2cm of snow in parts of the county. The showers will be a mixture of sleet and snow so icy patches are likely by the morning as well.
In the unlikely event that waste services are suspended, residents are advised to visit the council’s dedicated bad weather web page: www.fdean.gov.uk/go/badweather or call the 24-hours automated telephone line 01594 812666 for the most up to date information.
Should services be disrupted, the council will operate a ‘catch-up’ collection for the refuse and recycling box services but only once it is deemed safe to do so. In this case, residents are asked to leave their black refuse bin out for up to seven days and their recycling boxes for up to three days to assist the council’s contractor in clearing any outstanding waste.
Food waste caddies should be taken back in and presented again on the next scheduled collection day. Households with extra food waste due to a missed collection will be allowed to present their silver kitchen caddy in addition to their black food waste caddy if they wish on their next collection day.
The garden waste service will be suspended during this period to assist with outstanding refuse collections.
