Veteran NHS campaigner Maurice Bent says he could have died if he had waited for the 111 phone service to send an ambulance.
Mr Bent says the operator kept asking questions rather than put him through to a doctor when he phoned to complain of chest pains.
The 79-year-old was rushed to hospital with heart problems after slamming the phone down and dialling 999.
He has told MP Mark Harper that somebody will die if they do not sort out the new out of hours service.
