A GROUP of Newent volunteers want to bring back the town’s carnival.

The last carnival to be held in the town took place in July 1994.

The event was suspended due to the ever increasing cost to organise the event. Now, Voice of Newent, a group that help set up events in the town are hoping to get the event up and running for 2016 or 2017.

Colin Thomas, spokesperson for the group, said: “It’s still very early to say but we are looking to see if there is much interest in bringing back the town’s carnival.

“We are going to approach the Ledbury Carnival committee and see how they do it.

“The Newent Carnival would take place some time early in the summer so as not to clash with the Onion Fayre.

“There’s a lot of enthusiasm around the town and it would bre great to get the event going again. I think we need to find out who’s interested in helping out and getting involved and see if it bringing the event back is feasible.
