A MAN resorted to installing a fishing line with a bell on the end of it for his father to ring in an emergency after telephone lines were cut off in Parkend last week.

Mike Webb's father, Robert, 84, suffers from epilepsy and relies on a panic button phone system to call for help during emergencies.

There's no mobile telephone coverage in the village so in an emergency villagers have to drive for miles to get a good signal.
