THE FOREST Foodbank has issued an urgent appeal for donations, warning that stock levels are at their lowest point in recent memory as demand continues to rise across the district.

With more families turning to foodbanks in the face of ongoing financial pressures, volunteers are asking shoppers to consider picking up just one extra item during their weekly shop.

A spokesperson for the foodbank said: “If you can donate one thing extra whilst shopping, it is appreciated. Every tin, packet or jar really does make a difference right now.”

Donation baskets can be found at several key locations across the Forest of Dean. These include Tesco branches in Lydney, Cinderford and Coleford Express, though these particular collection points are strictly for in-store shoppers only.

Any food purchased elsewhere and brought into a Tesco store must be sealed and clearly labelled as having been bought outside.

Other drop-off points include The Main Place and Coleford Library, as well as Eskimarket in Coalway and the Co-op in Coleford.

In Bream, donations can be left in the foyer of St James Church Centre between 9AM and 1PM from Monday to Thursday, and from 9AM to 3PM on Fridays.

Kevin’s Family Butchers in Mitcheldean and Crooked End Farm in Ruardean are also accepting contributions.

Lidl stores in both Coleford and Lydney are participating, along with the Co-op petrol station on Highfield Road in Lydney.

Books and food donations can also be dropped off at local libraries in Lydney and Cinderford, while The Fountain Inn in Parkend is also supporting the appeal.

The foodbank team has thanked local residents for their ongoing support and encouraged everyone to keep an eye out for the green donation baskets when out and about. They added: “Your kindness helps feed local families – thank you.”
