Tuffley Rovers 0

Cinderford Town 2

CINDERFORD Town produced a workmanlike display to see off Tuffley Rovers 2-0 at Glevum Park on Saturday.

County League Tuffley – managed by former Cinderford player Doug Foxwell – had beaten Newent Town 4-2 in their opening friendly and included ex-Town wide man Ryan Parker in their line-up.

Cinderford fielded an extremely young side, which was captained by Craig Tait.

Cinderford controlled the first half and took the lead through Matt Barnes. The second period was a more even affair but Town went 2-0 up when Nick McCootie turned the Rovers defence to slot past Chris Perks.

Despite pressing hard for a route back into the game, Tuffley were kept at bay by an organised Cinderford defence.

CINDERFORD will have two blank holes in their league fixture programme following Andover's resignation from the Southern League.

The Hampshire club has been wound up and won't be playing on at any level.

Andover, a club with a 125-year history, cited the costs of staging Southern League football as the reason for their demise.

Town were due to play Andover at home on December 17 and away on April 14.
