A 29-year-old Sedbury woman convicted of assaulting another woman in the village, causing her actual bodily harm, has been sentenced to six months jail suspended for a year.

Jade Austin of Pipistrelle Close, Sedbury, was also ordered by Cheltenham magistrates to pay £1,000 compensation to her victim, Kara Powell.

Austin had denied assaulting Ms Powell causing actual bodily harm on November 30 2021 but was found guilty after trial.

In addition to the 26-week suspended custodial sentence she was placed under supervision for a year with a rehabilitation activity requirement.

The court also imposed a three year restraining order on Austin.

She must not contact her victim directly or indirectly or go to a specified address in Sedbury.

At the same court, Matthew Batten, 29, of Grahamstown Road, Sedbury, admitted threatening to burn down Ms Powell’s home and was placed on a one year community order with 200 hours of unpaid work.

He was ordered to pay compensation of £500, a further £500 in costs and a surcharge of £95.

The offence meant he was in breach of a community order imposed in May last year for assaulting Jade Austin in Lydney on March 17 2021 by beating her.

The magistrates made a concurrent community order for the breach.

Batten was made subject to a four year restraining order not to contact Ms Powell or go to a specified address.
