PAUL Morris and Will Jones face a big dilemma over the coming weeks – whether to commit to Lydney Cricket Club' s promotion push, or Lydney Rugby Club's pre-season build-up.

Morris is a mainstay of the cricket club's bowling attack, but he is also the rugby club's first-team coach.

Will Jones captained Lydney Rugby Club's first XV last term, but is also the cricket club's opening batsman and first choice spin bowler.

This week the cricketers face Painswick at home in what could be a Gloucestershire League title decider.

Across The Recreation Ground, the rugby boys face Bromsgrove in their opening match of the campaign as the rugby season starts earlier than ever. Morris admitted it was a problem he wasn't sure how to solve.

He said: "Ed Jones (Lydney cricket captain) tells me I'm playing cricket, while Nick Bartlett (Lydney's director of rugby) says I'm going with him. I know which one is bigger!

"In all honesty, I'll probably look at it week by week."

Cricket club captain Ed Jones said: "I think both Will and Paul will be with us on Saturday, but after that I'm not sure.

"Hopefully, they'll stick with the cricket to the end of the season.

"Painswick have a strong batting and bowling line-up but our confidence is up and we have a lot of people in form.

"We haven't lost a game at home all season.

"Whatever happens on Saturday there's still a lot of cricket to be played and we've got some other tough games ahead.

"Our last match is against Cinderford and I know they'd love to beat us."
