HERO butcher Reg Duberley is to hang up his cleaver after more than 70 years in the business.

The elderly butcher, who hit the national headlines when he tackled a knife-wielding vandal to the ground, is finally set to retire.

It will be the end of an era in Ruardean when the pensioner, who won a bravery award for catching the young man rampaging through the village, shuts up shop for the final time on Saturday.

Duberley Bros has been a fixture on the high street since 1936 and has been run by the same family.

"I will be 84 in August and I've worked here since I was 12," explained Reg.

"I hate closing it because it's a good little business, but I'm getting too old.

"It's only a small little shop but it's too much for one. I fancy a nice little holiday to get over all the work I've been doing, maybe even a cruise."
