AROUND half the voting public of the Forest of Dean are going to send Conservative Mark Harper back to Parliament as the region’s MP, according to a YouGov opinion poll.

The poll suggests that Mr Harper, who was the sitting MP before the election was called, will get anywhere between 47 and 65 per cent of the votes, with an estimate putting his figure at 56 per cent.

Labour’s Di Martiin will be second, if the opinion poll is right, with between 28 and 43 per cent of the vote. YouGov estimate she is set to have 35 per cent on the night.

That is a 43 per cent share of the vote which is 11 per cent higher than Labour, in second with 211 seats.

The Liberal Democrats, who stood down in the Forest of Dean so that the Remain vote could fall behind the Greens, are estimated to pick up 14 per cent of the votes but only 13 seats as a result.

Meanwhile, the Brexit Party, whose candidate Rev Sam Norton stood down because his national leader Nigel Farage did not want him to stand against Mr Harper, are not expected to return any MPs with a three per cent share, the Greens could pick up one MP and also have three per cent.

The SNP could pick up 43 MPs, Plaid Cymru in Wales four and there could be 18.
