PLANS to build a further 23 homes at an existing development in Berry Hill have been submitted to the district council.

Barratt David Wilson Homes is seeking permission to build on land north of Lower Lane in the village to the east and west of its existing ’Forest Grove’ site, which is currently being developed.

The new proposals form a subsequent phase of the Forest Grove development, which is currently accessed via Grove Road and Lower Lane (A4136).

Barratts secured permission from Forest of Dean District Council to build 180 dwellings in the village back in February 2020, and works to build the homes, as well as a spine road through the site, are well underway.

The developer had previously earmarked the two sites on which it is now proposing to build for possible future development in the initial plans for the wider site.

The first part of the latest proposal consists of 14 new homes in the western part of the consented development, directly next to the now-constructed spine road known as Ridgeway Avenue.

The western parcel forms the northern border of community parkland at the site.

The second parcel consists of nine homes in the eastern part of the consented development, next to a consented spine road which has not yet been built.

It forms the northern most boundary of the wider development and is directly south of existing houses at Aston Close.

The homes in parcel one are made up of four four-bedroom houses, four three-bed dwellings, four two-beds and two one-bed "walk up" apartments.

Five of the properties are to be social rented and one property will be offered as a first home.

The second parcel includes three four-beds and six three-bedroom houses, two of which are to be social rented and one property offered as a first home.

Residents have until January 13 to comment on the proposals, which the council is expected to consider by March 16.
