A NEW battle for supermarket supremacy in Cinderford could be on the cards after district planners gave the go-ahead to build a store on the proposed Asda site on Steam Mills Road.

The new proposal, submitted without a supermarket chain attached to it, is for the site on the junction with Valley Road which has previously been subject to numerous lengthy legal battles.

Under the new plans, access to the store will be made via a new roundabout installed at the junction between the two roads, while a track road will be improved to allow for goods vehicles.

Planning officers warned the area’s planning committee that the plan is contrary to Forest of Dean District Council core strategy by being out of the town centre.
