Motorists across the Forest of Dean District are advised to prepare for a series of temporary road closures and speed restrictions as Gloucestershire County Council undertakes essential infrastructure improvements throughout November and into early 2026.

A rolling programme of surface dressing works began on November 1 affecting multiple roads across Lydney, Woolaston, Newnham, and West Dean. Roads impacted include:

  • Harbour Road (Lydney) – 40m closure
  • Station Road (Lydney) – 170m closure
  • Road from Station Road Junction to Lydney Bypass Roundabout – 500m closure
  • A48 (Woolaston) – 61m closure
  • Dean Road (Newnham) – 800m closure
  • Woodland Place, Tylers Way, Johnson Way (West Dean) – 500m closure
  • Tylers Way to Myrtle Cottage (Woodcroft, West Dean) – 80m closure

Closures will be marked by approved signage and may occur during the day or overnight. Works are expected to be completed by January 1 2026, though the schedule may vary depending on weather and operational conditions. Pedestrian and emergency access will be maintained throughout.

In West Dean Parish, C11 High Street will be closed from November 17-20 to allow Wales & West Utilities to carry out essential works. The closure spans approximately 80 metres from its junction with New Road to the property known as ‘The Factory’. A signed diversion will be in place, and access for pedestrians and emergency services will be preserved.

A temporary 30mph speed restriction will be enforced on the B4228 in Tidenham Parish on November 18 , between 9am and 5pm, to facilitate pole replacement works by Openreach. The affected stretch runs 1,000 metres from Miss Grace Lane to Boughcliff House. No diversion is necessary, and access to adjacent properties will be maintained.

Residents and commuters are encouraged to check signage on-site and visit www.gloucestershire.gov.uk for updates and diversion details. For queries, contact Gloucestershire Highways at 08000 514 514.

Parking restrictions

Herefordshire Council has announced plans to introduce new parking and waiting restrictions along Gloucester Road in Ross-on-Wye. The proposed Traffic Regulation Order includes No waiting at any time on sections of the B4260, including 37 metres on the northwestern side and 27 metres on the southern side near Smallbrook Road.

Additional measures include single yellow lines restricting waiting between 9am and 6pm on the southeastern side for 156 metres near Camp Road. Limited waiting bays allowing up to four hours (no return within two hours) are planned for the northeastern side, while a permit parking zone with two-hour limits is proposed for the southeastern side near Chase Road.
