Motorists across the Forest of Dean are being advised to prepare for a series of temporary road closures and traffic restrictions next month as Gloucestershire County Council carries out a range of infrastructure works.

The measures, published by the county council under temporary traffic regulation orders, will affect roads in Gorsley and Kilcot, Newland, Coleford, Hewelsfield and Brockweir, and Cinderford during late October and November.

One of the earliest restrictions will take place on Sterry’s Lane in Gorsley and Kilcot on Friday, October 30 from 8am to 5pm.

A 50-metre section of the road between Brookfields Farm and Annexe Brookfield Cottage will be closed to allow for the replacement of a lighting pole. During the works, no waiting, stopping or loading will be permitted within the affected section.

Several closures are scheduled to begin on Monday, November 2. In Newland, Laundry Lane will be shut between Pear Tree Cottage and Rose Cottage until Friday, November 6 for works being carried out on behalf of National Grid. The closure covers approximately 500 metres of road.

At the same time, Old Road in Coleford will be closed between Ivydene and Rose Cottage to enable the installation of a new gas pipe. The closure is expected to remain in place from Monday, November 2 to Friday, November 6.

A further restriction will affect Bailey Lane in Hewelsfield and Brockweir, where drainage works are planned. The road will be closed between Hopewell House and Apple Acre from Monday, November 2 to Wednesday, November 4. The order also prohibits stopping, loading, unloading and waiting throughout the duration of the works.

Looking ahead, Hillberry Road in Cinderford is due to close on Friday, November 13 from 9am to 5pm to allow for the replacement of a lighting pole. The affected stretch runs between numbers 17 and 10 Hillberry Road.

Meanwhile, Gloucestershire County Council has announced plans for a further closure on the C357 road from Swanpool Wood to the junction with Almhouse Road in Newland.

The proposed closure, required for drainage works, is expected to run from Monday, November 16 to Thursday, November 19 between The Vicarage and Spout Cottage. Pedestrian access through the work site will only be permitted when escorted.

In all cases, signed diversion routes will be in place where required. Emergency access will be maintained, while pedestrian access to properties on or adjacent to the affected roads will continue where possible.

The council said each order could remain in force for up to 18 months if works are delayed, although restrictions are expected to be lifted as soon as projects are completed.
