Motorists and walkers across the Forest of Dean are being advised to prepare for a series of temporary road and footpath closures as Gloucestershire County Council carries out highway maintenance, utility works and safety investigations in several parishes over the coming weeks.
Among the first closures will be part of Church Road in Longhope, where carriageway works are scheduled to take place. The affected section runs from outside Courtleet to The Coach House, covering approximately 170 metres.
The road is due to close from Wednesday, October 28 8am until Thursday, October 29 6pm. Pedestrian and emergency access will be maintained, while a signed diversion route will be in place.
In Woolaston, a section of the C5 road between the junctions with Woodside and Woodside Road will be closed for new water connection works.
The closure affects around 100 metres of road between Woodside House and a junction near High View. Works are expected to run from Tuesday, October 27 until Thursday, October 29.
Meanwhile, Awre Road in Awre will be subject to a one-day closure and traffic restrictions on Wednesday, October 28 between 8am and 6pm.
The restrictions cover a 70-metre stretch outside Well Cottage and are required for works being carried out on behalf of Network Plus. In addition to the road closure, no waiting, stopping or loading will be permitted during the works.
Further disruption is expected in West Dean, where part of Pine Tree Way will close for new water connection works. The affected route, between Amberley and Amber Cottage, will be shut from Thursday, October 29 until Saturday, October 31.
Walkers are also being warned of a longer-term closure affecting Public Footpath RWD33 in West Dean. The route, which runs from its junction with the B4234 for approximately 185 metres in a south-easterly direction, has been closed to allow geotechnical investigations to take place safely.
The closure came into force on Monday, October 19 and is expected to remain in place until Friday, December 11.
Looking ahead, Gloucestershire County Council also intends to close part of Bulley Lane in Churcham for ditching and pipe repair works. The closure, between Drews Farm and the junction with Pigeon House, is scheduled for Monday, November 9 to Tuesday, November 10. No waiting, stopping or loading will be permitted during the works.
For all schemes, signed diversion routes will be provided where necessary and emergency access will remain available.
