A series of temporary road closures affecting communities across the Forest of Dean have been announced by Gloucestershire County Council, with works scheduled throughout late September and early October.

Several of the closures are linked to BT Openreach telecommunications work, while others are required for drainage improvements and Severn Trent Water projects.

The first restriction will affect the B4228 in Tidenham Parish. The road between Forest Way and the property known as Little Chase will be closed from Monday, September 21 between 8am and 5pm to allow BT Openreach pole works to take place.

The closure covers around 70 metres of road. Emergency access will not be maintained during these works for safety reasons, although pedestrian access will remain available.

Also starting on Monday, September 21 is a six-day closure and restriction on the C25 road between Branches Road and the A48 in Awre Parish. The affected section runs from the A48 junction to the Wellness Retreat, covering approximately 479 metres.

Gloucestershire County Council said the restrictions are needed for drainage works and will remain in place until Saturday, September 26. No stopping, waiting or loading will be permitted within the work area.

Further BT Openreach works are planned for Wednesday, September 23. In Awre Parish, the 405102 road between Woodville and Little Loiterpin will be closed from 11:30am to 5pm outside Crookam Farm for a distance of around 50 metres.

On the same day, Upper Rodley Road in Westbury-on-Severn will be shut from 9am to 5pm between The Bungalow and Rosedale, affecting approximately 200 metres of carriageway while pole works are carried out.

A two-day closure is then scheduled for The Moorwood in Lydbrook. The road between Moorwood Cottage and Morang will be closed from Thursday, September 24 at 8am until Friday, September 25 at 6pm while Severn Trent Water undertakes works.

Looking ahead to October, Stantway Lane in Westbury-on-Severn is expected to close from Thursday, October 1 at 8am until Friday, October 2 at 6pm.

Severn Trent Water works will affect the section between Gatwick Cottage and Stantway Cottage, a distance of around 240 metres.

The final planned closure currently announced is on Sunday, October 4, when the B4228 Coleford Road in Tidenham Parish will be closed between 8am and 5pm from Boughspring Lane to Rookwood for works on behalf of Network Plus.

Meanwhile, walkers are being advised that part of the Wye Valley Walk remains closed. A section of Public Footpaths RLY 44 and WBK 4a near Lydbrook has had its closure extended until April 15, 2028, or until repair works are completed, because a bridge on the route has been deemed unsafe.
