A series of road closures across the Forest of Dean will take place throughout early and mid‑September as Gloucestershire County Council carries out sewer repairs, utility works and drainage improvements.

The legal notices, issued on Wednesday, August 26, confirm disruption in multiple parishes including Newland, Lydney, West Dean, Drybrook, Littledean and Westbury‑on‑Severn.

The first closure affects 400195 The Rocks in Newland, where sewer repair works will shut a 50‑metre stretch outside Old House and Jornary Cottage from Tuesday, September 1 to Thursday, September 3.

A line from the notice states: “The reason for the closure is for sewer repair works” . Pedestrian and emergency access will remain available.

In Lydney, C15 Lydney Road will close for Openreach poling works between 9am and 5pm on Tuesday, September 1. The closure covers around 100 metres from Soilwell Manor to Old Dam Road. The council notes that if works overrun, the order may remain in force for up to eighteen months.

Further Openreach activity will shut 400077 Joyford Hill in West Dean on Wednesday, September 2, again between 9am and 5pm, for pole replacement works. The notice confirms the closure runs from Lealands to Leyland House.

A longer disruption is planned in Ruspidge and Soudley, where 400100 and 403010 Buckshaft Road will close for Wales & West Utilities works from Tuesday, September 1 to Tuesday, September 8. The affected stretch covers approximately 450 metres from Hudsons Lane to No. 54A Buckshaft Road.

Drybrook will see two separate closures: C29 Brierley Banks on Friday, September 11 from 12pm to 5pm for BT Openreach pole renewal, and 403028 Baptist Way from Monday, September 14 to Wednesday, September 16 for Severn Trent Water works. A short 10‑metre section of 403057 Batts Lane will also close from 8am on Tuesday, September 15 to 5pm on Wednesday, September 16 for network utility works.

Significant drainage works will shut and restrict C39 George Lane in Littledean from Monday, September 14 to Friday, September 18, with no stopping or waiting permitted throughout.

Two further closures fall in mid‑September: C14 Park Hill to Bream Road in Lydney from 8am on Monday, September 14 to 5pm on Tuesday, September 15, and 400125 Riverside Lane in Westbury‑on‑Severn from Monday, September 14 to Friday, September 18, where Citi Utilities will be working.
