A NEW Tesco store dubbed "Shed Mark II" would scar the centre of Coleford an inquiry heard last week.
Council architects are unhappy with the design of the building which they say does not fit in with the rest of the town.
And campaigners say it would remove the last green space in the centre of Coleford and take business from struggling shops.
Despite the 40 jobs that Tesco would create, it could cost the community much more', Fran Challis told the planning inquiry which opened last Wednesday.
Planners rejected Tesco's planning application for the second time in March last year because they said the revised design did not take into account the important features of the surrounding buildings in Coleford Town Centre.
Tesco appealed after one councillor branded the revised design as "a factory unit with a toilet on the end" and the other "Shed Mark II."
