A PHOTOGRAPHY exhibition in Clearwell drew more than 100 visitors over the Mothering Sunday weekend.
The display took place on Saturday, March 14 and Sunday, March 15 and featured the work of four local photographers who all live in the village and are members of the Forest of Dean Camera Club.
Organisers said the event attracted around 130 visitors across the two days, exceeding expectations.
The exhibition was promoted as an alternative way to celebrate Mothering Sunday, encouraging visitors to “bring along Mother” for something a little different. The adverts added that if bringing mum wasn’t possible, people could also bring daughters, grannies or wives.
While no dogs appeared, the organisers said there were plenty of families, including children and grandparents, enjoying the display.
The exhibition was organised by photographers Andrew MacBean, Alan Waterman, Chris Bowman and Rowan Jones.
Mr MacBean first came up with the idea for the event. Mr Waterman has also been part of the club for around 12 years.
Mr Bowman, who moved to Clearwell more recently, was already an experienced photographer but was persuaded by Mr MacBean to join the club.
Meanwhile, Ms Jones is a long-time resident of the village but a more recent member of the club, having joined after taking part in the beginners’ course it offers.
Visitors were able to view a wide range of photographs, including wildlife, landscapes and travel images from places such as Africa, Slovenia and Iceland.
Mr MacBean also displayed photographs of machinery, including images of steam trains and aircraft.
One of the first images visitors saw was a large photograph of a steam train taken inside a workshed, with several prints purchased during the weekend.
Organisers said they will now reflect on the success of the exhibition, with the possibility of repeating the event in the future.
