ONE historic aspect of Pauntley that is being fostered at the village school is Dick Whittington
The quintessential image of Dick with his bundle of belongings on a stick and his cat has already been commemorated in the outline of the weather vain on top of the new school building.
Dick grew up in the village and became the Lord Mayor of London no fewer than four times.
And now thanks to local ceramic artist Sarah D’Arcy, the children are currently involved in a Dick Whittington cat arts project.
Sarah presented the school with a ceramic model of a cat curled up in sleep and the children are creating and painting a family of ceramic mice.
When finished they will be assembled as piece a 3D artwork which will take pride of place as a permanent exhibit on the wall at the school’s main entrance.
