PUPILS from Parkend Primary School tucked in to well-deserved cream teas courtesy of The Speech House last week having won first prize in the hotel’s crafty jubilee competition.
Classes 1 and 2 were treated to “magnificent” scones and fruit shoots on the school field last Tuesday (July 12) for their entry in the hotel’s Jubilee Bunting Competition, which was held as part of their Street Party celebration this month.

For the contest, each entry had to be 10m long and have a theme, with the school choosing ‘The Crown Jewels’.
And, upon hearing they had won first prize - a cream tea for every child - Isabel Jackson from Class 2 suggested they hold their own ‘Teddy Bear’s Picnic’.
Speech House staff headed to the school field last week to serve the children their prizes, with everyone invited to bring their teddy bears along for the day.
The competition win followed the school’s own Jubilee event in May, for which parents joined the children for a lunchtime picnic.
The children then headed for the classroom for some crafty activities inspired by “British values”, with Class 3 making collages of the British flag, Class 1 making paper crowns and Class 2 making their prize-winning bunting.
The children thoroughly enjoyed their teddy bear’s picnic and were very grateful to Speech House’s Naomi and Gill Hands for their prizes.
One pupil Leah Burrows commented: “The Teddy Bear’s Cream Tea Picnic was fabulous.
“It was kind and generous of Speech House to give us scones and Froot Shoots.”
Dexter Davies added: “It was spectacular. Our school is amazing because we do other fun stuff as well, like growing plants, bug hunts and Forest Classroom.”
Isabel Jackson commented: “It was exciting entering the bunting competition with Speech House because we didn’t know if we were going to win or not.”
Bella Simpson said: “It was amazing and fun because we got to bring our teddies in.”
And Tilly Bezani added: “The food was magnificent!”
