NOMINATIONS are now open for the 2025 Forest Volunteer Awards, shining a light on the individuals, groups and organisations who go the extra mile to support their communities.

Organised by the Forest Voluntary Action Forum (FVAF), the awards recognise those who make a real difference across the district, whether by leading community projects or working quietly behind the scenes.

There are several categories open for nominations this year.

The Volunteer of the Year – People’s Champion will be chosen by a public vote and recognises someone who has shown outstanding dedication and care in helping others.

The Young Volunteer of the Year celebrates a volunteer aged 21 or under who has shown commitment, passion and a strong sense of community through their actions.

The Grassroots Group of the Year award honours small local teams who are making a big impact at a community level, often with limited resources.

The Community Organisation Award is for more established voluntary or charitable groups that provide vital services, run activities or support those in need across the Forest.

The Business in the Community Award acknowledges companies that give back, whether through donations, volunteering or ongoing support for local causes.

The Accessibility and Inclusion Award recognises efforts to make local spaces and activities more inclusive, improving access and opportunities for everyone.

The Community Climate Action Award celebrates environmental efforts such as local recycling schemes, nature conservation, and projects that tackle climate change at a local level.

The deadline for nominations is midnight on Sunday, July 20 and entries can be submitted online via the FVAF website.

A spokesperson for FVAF said the awards are “an opportunity to thank the incredible volunteers whose work often goes unrecognised, but who make a real impact on the lives of others across the Forest.”
