A 39-year-old Newent man who twice caused damage to another man’s car in the town has been sentenced to a community order as well as being ordered to pay £235 compensation.

Richard Hopkins of May Hill View pleaded guilty at Cheltenham Magistrates Court to causing £200 damage to a Vauxhall Astra on July 22 2021 and a further £35 damage to the same vehicle three days later.

He was ordered to pay £85 costs and was told to undergo a rehabilitation programme with up to 30 days of activities.

Hopkins also admitted that he was in breach of an earlier community order made on November 11 2021 by not attending sessions of a Thinking Skills programme. 

He was ordered to pay a further £60 costs for that breach
