LYDNEY Town have appointed defender Mark Lee as first-team manager.

Mark replaces Neil Hook, who is standing down after three seasons in charge due to work commitments.

Mark is well respected on the local football scene and his previous clubs include Cinderford Town, Viney Hill, Ellwood and Whitecroft.

Mark is actively looking for an assistant to work alongside him. He also wants to make new signings to freshen up the squad and high on his list is a new goalkeeper.

Mark plans to take a back seat with regards to playing himself, but he certainly won't be hanging up the boots.

Lydney Town have once again entered the FA Cup and the FA Vase and training has already started on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Pre-season games have been pencilled in against Monmouth Town on July 16 (home); Bishop's Cleeve Reserves on July 23 (home); Ilfracombe on July 30 (away) and Lucas Cwmbran on August 6 (home).

Town will also travel to Pegasus Juniors on Tuesday August 2.

Pegasus have transferred from the Hellenic League to the West Midland League.

Lydney Town Reserves are also under new management with George Matthews and Brian Evans taking over from Roy Davis.

With Matthews stepping up from running the third team, that vacancy has been filled by former first-team boss Stuart Liddington, who will be assisted by John Hopson.

Despite his advancing years, John still turned out for the thirds a couple of times last year.

Lydney under-18s will once again be playing in the County Youth League with home games held on Monday nights.

George Matthews remains in charge of this team as well as the reserves and he has entered his side in the FA Youth Cup.

They gave a good account of themselves last year, only losing 4-3 to Gloucester City (City's winner came eight minutes into injury-time).

Town have retained most of last season's squad, while a number of quality players will step up from the under-16s.
