A NEW contraflow system has come into operation on the A40 at Over Bridge this week as the latest phase of the major refurbishment project gets underway.

Eastbound traffic between Highnam and Over Roundabout has been diverted onto the westbound carriageway, with one lane remaining open in each direction. A temporary 30mph speed limit is also in force.

The eastbound carriageway between Over Farm and Over Roundabout is closed, although access remains for buses, residents and businesses between Over Farm and Horseshoe Drive.

The traffic management is expected to remain in place until October while National Highways carries out essential work to refurbish the ageing bridge. Drivers are being urged to allow extra time for their journeys.
