Jo Milson ran into a blazing bungalow because she feared her pensioner mother was inside.
The 32-year-old raced from room to room frantically searching for her mother Brenda who had just been diagnosed with dementia.
But the 60-year-old pensioner had nipped out to see a friend across the road at Crayshaw Place, Cinderford and was safe and well.
Jo spotted the flames when she called to check on her mum for the second time at around 11pm last Friday night.
"The fire alarms were going so I just opened the door with my key and rushed in to look for her," she said.
"It was scary but when your mum's house is on fire you don't stop to think. I wanted to check all the rooms because I was frightened she had fallen and could not get up.
"Thankfully she had gone out to see her friend because they both like playing cards and knitting. They'd got nattering and lost track of time."
