CRAIG Drew guided Yorkshireman Tim Pearcey to victory on Sundays MEM Malton Historic Stages.
Heavy overnight rain left a lot of standing water on the stages.
Despite a slight oil leak from the sump and a spin, Pearcey's Escort RS1800 led from start to finish over the six tests.
Such was their pace, they finished sixth overall in the modern rally.
Craig said: "It was a very enjoyable day. The stages were slippery, but we had a great battle with Darren Moon, who kept us on our toes."
This weekend's Rally Wales GB sees the revival of the National Rally, run over two days.
A capacity entry will start from Builth Wells on Saturday morning for 75 testing stage miles. Local interest revolves around the Winner team of Bob Morgan and Adrian Williams (Impreza).
"It will be good to see what our times are like against the WRC regulars," said Adrian.
"They have the benefit of a recce, but the event is good value for money and it would be nice to go over the finish ramp in Cardiff on Sunday afternoon."
