AFTER years of ‘radio silence’, mobile phone service is to be connected to Parkend and the Cannop Valley.
Phone company EE has installed a 20 metre high G4 mast at the Pygmy Pinetum Nursery by the Cannop Crossroads.
The mast will, for the first time, offer a connection to 999 emergency services for subscribers to all mobile phone networks.
But EE’s own subscribers in the area will benefit from the ability to place their personal calls.
EE spokesman Robbie Collins said: “We’re currently installing a new 4G mast in the Cannop area, giving our customers access to 4G mobile coverage for the first time.
“With 4G in more places than any other provider, our customers in Cannop can do more with their smartphones and stay connected wherever they go.”
Angela and Keith Parker who run the Pygmy Pinetum Nurseries say it’s good news for the whole valley and especially forest visitors who get into trouble.
Angela said: “The mast is designed to cover the whole of Cannop Valley which is currently a mobile phone black spot and will benefit those who live here, victims of accidents, hikers, bikers and walkers.
