North Gloucestershire League Round-up
Premier Division
THERE was no shock when top met bottom in the Premier Division, with runaway leaders Minsterworth winning 6-1 at struggling Coleford United.
Coleford gave a good account of themselves for 45 minutes and held their opponents to 1-1.
Neil Griffiths put the visitors in front, but Martyn Leach grabbed a surprise equaliser.
Minsterworth raced clear after the break with an own-goal, a Jason Griffiths strike and a Stacey Lee hat-trick. With Minsterworth already 16 points clear at the top the battle is seemingly on for the runners-up slot. Ruardean Hill Rangers have the edge right now following their 1-0 defeat of Tidenham, courtesy of a Dave Frowen goal. Staunton & Corse are right up there too, following their 6-0 win over Mushet & Coalway.
Mark Lawrence bagged four goals with Jamie Bubb notching a double.
Mitcheldean won 4-2 at Newnham United with efforts from Turner (3) and Thomas, while Steve Blaby (3), Lee Roberts and Joe Clarke guided in-form Milkwall to a 5-1 success at Huntley. Marc Matthews scored Huntley's goal.
Divisions One & Two
REDBROOK Rovers lie third in Division One following their 2-0 win at struggling Yorkley.
Both goals came in the second-half, via Paul James and Gareth Ball.
Newent Town Reserves saw off Bream 4-2 with efforts from Kevin Goff, Rich Badmass, Justin Halfpenny and an own-goal. Sam Hill and Dave Jenkins replied for Bream.
Mitcheldean Reserves beat Blakeney 2-1 with strikes from Jeremy Sherwood and Dean White. Andy Rowles replied for the losers who are now bottom of the division.
In Division Two, Puma missed an opportunity to return to the top of the table. They have the same number of points as rivals St Briavels, but the Saints have a better goal difference.
Jason Boulton scored for Puma to earn a 1-1 draw with Woolaston Reserves after James White had put the visitors ahead.
Keith Jackson (2), Tomasz Kazieckzko and Jason Evans netted for Westbury United Reserves in their 4-2 defeat of Staunton & Corse Reserves. Matt Smith and Mark Morlo scored for the away side.
Soudley Reserves beat White Horse 4-1 with goals from Jones, Baglin, Stephens and a Tom Ringrose own-goal.
Divisions Three & Four
PAUL Wooding scored four times as unbeaten Weston Athletic ran out 6-0 winners at Blakeney Reserves in Division Three.
Paul Burnham hit Weston's other two goals.
Puma Reserves edged out Redbrook Reserves by 5-4 . Dan James (2), Carl Hyett, Ben Steward and Justin Simms netted for Puma, with John Roberts (2), Joe Griffiths and Luke Griffiths keeping bottom club Rovers in the contest.
Mark Horwood (2) and Chris Baxter shot Minsterworth Reserves to a 3-1 victory over Rank Outsiders Reserves. Scott Edwards replied for Ranks.
With Division Four leaders United Longhope not in action, Chepstow Rifles closed the gap to a single point by beating Mitcheldean A 3-0. Lee Mason, Pat Barrett and Ross Davies found the target.
Neil Davis and Jamie Anderson-Kirby provided Ruardean United with a 2-0 win over Yorkley Reserves, while Dan Gwilliam and Derek Grinstead scored for Littledean in their 2-0 success at Whitecroft A.
Hardwicke A also won 2-0 at St Briavels Reserves.
