TRUSTEES at Cinderford' s Miners' Welfare Hall are at loggerheads with their Welsh guardians after being told they cannot sell a patch of land.
Club bosses say they wanted to raise around £60,000 to pay for energy saving measures to cut sky high fuel bills of around £10,000 a year.
Former chairman Graham Morgan fears the decision could threaten the future of the important landmark and has called on the Welsh body to step aside.
The row has prompted rumours of a closure but secretary Charmaine Revill says that's untrue and wants residents to rally round.
"No way are we planning to close," she said.
"We are taking bookings for Christmas and New Year and our diary is full.
"We've already lost a men's skittles team because of the rumours, but I want people to know that we are not closing down.
"We made a loss of £18,000 about six years ago but we still came back from that. We can do it again."
