FAMILIES in the Forest of Dean are being invited to meet award-winning children’s author Andy Seed at Lydney Library next week.
The event takes place on Wednesday, August 27, from 3PM to 4PM, and promises an afternoon of stories, laughter and creativity. It is aimed at children aged six to eleven, but organisers say everyone is welcome to come along.
Andy, who describes himself as a humourist as well as an author, is best known for writing lively, fact-filled books that make reading fun. His titles range from Prankenstein, his first children’s novel, to a series of entertaining information books packed with lists, quizzes, jokes and unusual true stories.
He has also written poetry, memoirs, and non-fiction guides for schools on topics including the Winter Olympics and track cycling.
Speaking ahead of his visit, Andy said his aim is always to make books enjoyable: “I love funny things and most of my books are a bit giggly. If children are laughing while they’re reading, then they’re learning too.”
The library session will give children the chance to hear Andy talk about his writing, discover how ideas turn into stories, and take part in activities designed to spark their own imaginations. There will also be the opportunity to ask questions and get books signed.
Tickets are being offered on a “pay what you can” basis. While a suggested price is listed online, families are encouraged to pay whatever feels right for them, ensuring the event is accessible to as many people as possible.
Gloucestershire Libraries say the visit is part of their ongoing programme of events to encourage reading and creativity among young people across the county.
All children must be accompanied by an adult. Booking is available through the Gloucestershire Libraries website.
