A CONTROVERSIAL multi million pound scheme to pedestrianise the centre of Lydney has been pushed up the queue for funding.

The scheme to ban traffic from the middle of town is one of eight priority schemes being put forward for funding by Gloucestershire County Council Cabinet.

Another major scheme on the list is designed to end rush hour misery for tens of thousands of commuters travelling from the Forest into Gloucester every day by widening the A40 and installing traffic lights.

The new Local Transport Body (LTB), which meets for the first time on Thursday March 21, will decide which of the schemes should be submitted for Government for funding.
