Letcombe 1

Lydney Town 5

IN-FORM Lydney moved to within a point of leaders Headington with this emphatic success.

Town were without the injured Mark Lee and Sam Elliott, so Steve Warren kept his place in defence after a fine display in the cup in midweek.

On 15 minutes, James Morse played a superb ball into the path of Ross Lindsay. The full-back finished from a tight angle to give his side the lead.

Lydney's second goal came from a 30-yard free-kick strike from Ricky Elliott, following a foul on James Morse.

Hedges pulled one back for Letcombe just before half-time.

Despite playing into the wind, Lydney controlled the second period.

Steve Jones made it 3-1 with a header from a corner, then Adam Price beat three players before playing in Lindsay. His first time shot was on target, but Matt Timmins got the final touch to turn it past the Letcombe keeper.

With the points in the bag, Lydney manager Neil Hook introduced subs Halford, Liddington and Gittings, and they all played their part in Lydney's best performance of the season.

Timmins completed the scoring in the 79th minute by heading home a Danny Clarke cross after a surging run down the left.
