TRAFFIC jams and air pollution could be a thing of the past if a new road improvement scheme in Lydney is given the green light.
The proposal would see changes made to trouble-spots like the Bream Road junction, as well as a new cycle-path from the town centre to the railway station.
And Brian Pearman, chairman of the Lydney Neighbourhood Development Planning Group, believes the plans are vital to make sure the town can cope with a number of major housing developments over the next few years.
He said: "We see these developments as absolutely crucial for the economic future of this town.
"The scope for growth and development is here and if the infrastructure is put in place Lydney will prosper and flourish. Without them it could be a nightmare."
The bid has been submitted to the recently-formed Gloucestershire Local Transport Board by the district and county council and will be considered at its July meeting.
